Mad Honey Hunting Expedition in Lamjung Village with Adventure Series Nepal

Embark on a mad honey-hunting expedition in the picturesque Lamjung Village, nestled within the Annapurna region of Nepal. This ancient practice, deeply rooted in the traditions of the indigenous Gurung community, offers more than just the pursuit of honey—it’s a cultural odyssey.

Expedition Overview: The Mad Honey Hunting Expedition is a testament to the courage and skill of the Gurung people, who have been harvesting the psychedelic and medicinal honey from the great Apis Laboriosa bees for generations. These giant bees make their hives on cliffs over 3000 meters high, presenting a formidable challenge to the hunters.

Cultural Significance: The honey collected carries immense traditional value, passed down through the ages. It’s a symbol of the community’s harmony with nature and their resilience in the face of the Himalayas’ daunting terrain.

The Thrill of the Honey Hunting:

Joining the expedition, you’ll witness the adrenaline-fueled ascent as hunters scale sheer cliffs using natural ladders crafted from bamboo, ropes, and hooks. The use of smoke flames to calm the bees is a technique honed over centuries, allowing for the careful extraction of honeycombs.

Sustainable Practices: The honey is meticulously harvested, crushed, and filtered before being preserved in bamboo or clay pot containers. This sustainable approach ensures the continuation of this precious tradition and supports the local economy.

Supporting a Cause: By participating in the Mad Honey Hunting Expedition, you’re not only embarking on a wilderness adventure but also contributing to the independence and financial stability of the indigenous people. The honey, renowned for its unique properties, is also made available globally through the Mad Honey Store.

Join Adventure Series Nepal on this incredible journey, where every step is a step towards cultural discovery and natural wonder. Let’s explore the heart of the Himalayas together, creating memories that will last a lifetime. 🌄

Best experienced of my life

I was traveling with two friends. We did a honey-hunting tour in Nepal , Lamjung. It was a wonderful experience, especially with the help of our guide and porters. The trail was quite slippery and they provided us with the best guides and porters. They were familiar with us and cared for every small thing. We have traveled by jeep between Lamjung Khudi. The Adventure Series Nepal had our best interests in mind during the entire trek and tour. They kept us informed of every detail. They were flexible to our requests. They ensured that all guest houses took care of us. They taught us about Nepali culture and language. Consider booking with Adventure Series Nepal. Thank you, Adventure Series Nepal, for making our trip memorable.

honey hunting in lamjung

My colleagues and I went on a business vacation, starting the trip with breathtaking views of the Annapurna Range in Lamjung District. Then we were welcomed by the local Gurung community there. In the evening, we had some local Gurung cuisine and some local beverages too, along with some traditional dances and music. We went to the cliff to see how the honeycomb is hunted by the local tribe, and we were amazed by how it is done. The way to use the traditional method to hunt down the huge chunks of honeycomb is something else. We really enjoyed this trip a lot, and we would recommend others try out the Adventure series next time. The hospitality and the tours they offer are really good and comfortable. And the best thing is that we also get premium and natural mad honey from the agent.
